Personal Counseling
It Takes Courage
It can be intimidating to seek out professional support when you’re feeling stuck. Yet its also incredibly courageous and life-affirming to be willing to take that first “leap of faith” with a therapist – or to begin again with someone new.
I’m a licensed psychologist who has been working with clients for over 20 years. Through my clinical practice I offer personal counseling for a limited number of adult individual clients in KS and MO.
I welcome you to read my blog post on “How Psychotherapy Helps” to learn more about the benefits of counseling as well as the potential risks. You are welcome to securely email me if you have questions.

Counseling (or psychotherapy) is a non-invasive, drug-free, relatively low-risk form of treatment that can help reduce many kinds of distress. It is different from talking to a friend or family member in that:
- Your psychologist is a trained specialist in human behavior
- Clear boundaries are established with the intention of protecting a relationship of mutual safety and trust
- Specific goals can be identified that client and therapist agree to work on together

Bend, Not Break
The first 1-3 meetings (called the initial interview) offer an opportunity for us to get to know each other, explore your concerns and history, make sure there is a good match, and discuss a basic plan.
A good match is important because research shows the quality of the therapist-client relationship is a significant factor in successful outcomes. This means that I need to have the experience and expertise to meet your needs and you need to feel comfortable with me. If for any reason my approach isn’t a good match for your needs, I can provide a referral that may work better.
After the initial interview, the standard is once weekly, 45 minute therapy sessions, but this can be flexible depending upon your needs.
My approach is flexible in order to meet a variety of needs, but I have extensive training and experience with:
- Mindfulness informed approaches, the benefits of which are also well-established in the psychotherapy research.
- Cognitive Behavior Therapy, a well-established set of treatments for anxiety, depression and other health conditions.
I do not have expertise in helping people with legal or court-related concerns. An online, solo therapist practice is not the right fit for clients who are at high risk for harming themselves or others. I can help with referral options in these cases. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
Billing and Fees
Fees are based on a sliding scale according to after tax income in order to serve a wider range of people. I do not participate with any insurers nor do I assist with insurance claims in any way. Those who are able to pay more make it possible for me to serve those who can contribute less.
| Net Household Income | Fee (per 45 minute service hour) |
| >$200,000 | $250 |
| $150-200,000 | $200 |
| $100– 149,999 | $150 |
| <$100 | $100 |
Payment is due at time of service. I have a 24-hour cancellation policy meaning that you will be charged the full fee for missed appointments and late cancellations. When paid in advance, there are no refunds for missed appointments or for cancellations made less than 24 hours from your scheduled appointment time.
