Although many people feel intimidated by the idea of group therapy, this modality of treatment can be a very powerful path toward healing for a number of reasons. Collaborating with a group of people who are struggling with similar concerns helps you understand on an experiential level that you are not alone. Group members become a source of mutual support. Participants often benefit greatly from hearing others experiences and find it very rewarding to help others by sharing what they have learned. Hearing different perspectives can create a paradigm shift that can help participants get “unstuck”. Dr. Ochester offers a variety therapy groups and mindfulness classes – if you aren’t already one of her clients, an initial meeting is required to make sure the group is right for you.
